The Future is Compost
With nearly 1.3 billion tons of waste being buried beneath the roots of our planet annually, we will inevitably have to ask ourselves what do we do with all of this trash. Despite our efforts to solve the problem of waste management, the most organic, intuitive solution comes from nature itself: compost. Currently, we treat and see waste as civilization's cost; inevitably, we must shift to seeing our waste as nature's rebate. And it's for these reasons that, if we wish to survive, our future is one dominated by compostable materials.
Made from your favorite Kombucha teaWhat's not to love about the gable-top milk carton? It possesses an ergonomic design for quick and easy access to your drink, and it keeps your milk fresh.
Unfortunately, our childhood favorite cartons are lined with polyethylene coatings that subject them to waste streams leading directly to landfills. At Kompostable, we've found a natural solution using kombucha and beeswax. |
Who We Are We are a team of four UC Davis undergraduate students seeking to reduce plastic waste and alleviate the growing landfill crisis in the U.S. caused, in part, by disposable plastic beverage containers. As a team of engineers, scientists, and designers, we have developed a novel kombucha-based container and hope to soon introduce this to the market as a sustainable, closed-loop alternative.
